about

In the last few years, I’ve been a part of the UX team to shape the world of our intranet, known fondly as “CONNECT,” at Robert Half. If you don’t know what an intranet is, it’s essentially a website with company news, lots of onboarding information, employee benefits, sometimes document storage, and the like—all internal stuff.

Robert Half is a global staffing company and requires the use of dozens of third-party platforms like Workday, Salesforce, Yammer, etcetera, all of which are accessible on the CONNECT homepage. We call this little area: “Shortcuts” where day in, day out, employees quickly link to these platforms using single sign-on (SS0). The Shortcuts worked just fine, however, as is customary in tech, we wanted to make it a little better. So off we went…

One major change we created was to move the Shortcuts on the homepage to this drawer-like experience so that the links inside of Shortcuts to all third-party platforms were accessible on any page, not just the homepage. In this first iteration, you’ll see some user testing that I created using questions and prompts. Since COVID had just hit, we were coming up with new ways to get feedback using Microsoft Teams and asking users to record themselves (almost a mini usertesting.com). In this way, we were able to get dozens of users to provide us with feedback.
