This project was a design exercise where the challenge was to create a tablet application for children ages of 6-14 where they could stream their favorite TV and movie content at any given time. The project had two main objectives: 1 - To create an app that had an easy way for parents to restrict the content that their child could see. 2 - Find a balance with the user experience that would consider the age range of young children up to the early teenage years. My approach was to first interview parents and children on the various streaming apps they used for movies, television shows, and video clips. From my findings, I then researched competitive apps in the video streaming space for kids and began sketching. The parent controls were addressed in both the onboarding experience as well as in the account settings where parents could set the appropriate content (i.e TV-Y or TV-13) and password protect the app. Since the age range was substantial, I chose to mirror a handful of apps they were already familiar using which were: Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube.
