Personas Aplenty

Robert Half | Lead UX Designer
about
At Robert Half, I worked primarily on their intranet that provides company news, links to third-party platforms with single sign-on, document storage etc. To define the direction of any designs we create, we went through a relatively simple UX process that generally looks as follows: define the problem, interview users, consult and update personas where need be, define user scenarios utilizing the personas, and finally design, iterate, etc.
Intranets are a funny business as they don’t necessarily require you to look very far to talk with your users…they’re sitting all around you (or used to before COVID). Robert Half’s users, as a global staffing company, more or less are divided into two main user types: recruiters, who spend little time on the intranet, and corporate employees, who spend slightly more time on it.
To create these personas, I traveled to a handful of different offices across the US to capture the nuances of our users which included: location and time zone, employee type, years employed, number of remote days, tech savviness, quotes, and of course stories to describe each users’ needs. Through the last few years, every time we begin our designs, we turn to our personas to ensure that we’re identifying the right problems for the right people.
